Moms have so much compassion for other people. Can we apply this same compassion and kindness toward ourselves?
August 25 to 31 is Be Kind to Humankind Week. Yes, there’s a week for that! You know the same compassion we show to our kids and other people? We need that same compassion for ourselves.
Self-compassion is a big theme in many of the yoga classes I teach. There’s even a self-compassion mudra we practice to seal self-compassion in our hearts, minds and actions.
I had an eating disorder when I was 19 because I overexercised and restricted what I ate. I was focused on how many calories I could burn and how few calories I could eat.
It didn’t feel healthy because it wasn’t.
Over time, I learned how to be kinder to myself in thoughts, words and actions.
Place your hands over your heart. Feel that beat? That’s your own unique rhythm residing within you. Love it. Own it. Know it. Be kind to it.
